When should you get all-season tires or winter tires? What's the big difference between them? Our Land Rover of Tacoma service team created this short guide containing answers, facts and advice.

All-Season Tires vs. Winter Tires

If you're trying to decide between winter tires and all-season tires, think about the climate where you live. All-season tires have taut rubber construction to preserve tread depth and tread pattern even in mild to warm weather. The construction of all-season tires contains characteristics of summer and winter tires, offering some performance characteristics of both. As a result, all-season tires are best if you live in a mild climate.

What Makes Winter Tires Different

Winter tires contain thick, soft rubber construction to maximize tread depth and tread pattern even in cold temperatures. Since the rubber remains pliable, tread and grip remain constant as temperatures drop. The deep tread depth of winter tires helps them repel slush and water to reduce snow buildup. Biting edges are another quality of winter tires. Biting edges are essentially tiny slits, tiny treads that provide secure grip, traction and stability on ice.
